- Yes, I've read about it. I'm on my way to send/fax info about this machine to
- some AntiAmiga stores nearby, I've told all my friends about it, spread
- info/pictures of it on local BBSs am planning to convince the other leaders of
- our local computerclub (I'm one of 'em :-)) to buy it...and so on...:-)
- If that shows what I think about it - it's bloody brillant!
-
- >From the photos I've seen, it should be possible to use it also as
- >radio-clock and vacuum-cleaner ;-)
-
- Well, the design was nothing short of incredible in my opinion, and so do at
- least SOME of my friends think. It's about to change at least a bit though :-(
-
- >It's a very nice Amiga for sure though, with a look that could be discussed,
- >but is surely original enough to attract the attention of "not computer
- >expert" people.
- >What sucks is the AGA chipset, I hope they'll give dualport chipram: they
- >would understand after how wise this choice will have been, even more than
- >the CdRom.
-
- What does this mean? Dualport chipmem?
- Anyway, wouldn't a gfxcard be a better opinion?
- And when we get the PowerAmigas we'll get better gfx/faster gfx anyway.
- I don't think they should make the machine even more expensive (although it's
- very good value for money at 600ú and pretty good at 700ú too...)
-
- >What sucks++ is that AT is not *capable* to make innovative custom chips
- >(they can say it's not possible, but I know that every console producer makes
- >custom chips). So, being not capable to make them, the PowerAmiga is destined
- >to be another PC clone, with just a different CPU (PowerPC: btw, I bought a

- >are better, starting from the old and cheap Transputers) and a different OS.
- >But for me, a games maker, the OS is not important for the final software.
-
- Well, they are talking about customchips aren't they? I think it depends on how
- the Walker sells...
-
- >It seems that AT said << *everything* must be done with the OS, direct
- >hardware programming will not be allowed anymore >>. I never expected such an
- >unwise
- >(I dont say "silly", because I must think they just aren't capable to make
- >better, for budget problems) decision about the new Amiga management.
- >I recall A1200 and CD32 market died because some "C++ programmers" or
- >managers didn't allow direct hardware programming. Cool ignorant people.
- >8(((
-
- Doesn't "bad" coding mean less compatibility in the future then??
- If so, i don't agree with you! :-(
-
- >If AT wants this shit from PowerAmiga, then IMHO the *last* Amiga will be the
- >680x0 and AGA based ones. The PowerAmiga will be a PC with just another CPU.
- >I bought the PowerPC book (105 US dollars!) because I was enthusiast to code
- >for the PowerAmiga, now I got the sensation it'll be like programming a PC.
- >The A1000/A500 and A2000 were dream computers IMO because of their custom
- >chips and architecture, not because of the lame 1.0/1.1/1.2 OS.
- >I'll keep my 68060 Amiga for *development*, I'll create and test algorithms,
- >graphics, sounds on my Amiga, but if this PowerAmiga is that anonymous
- >machine, I'll support only old Amigas and, before I support a PowerAmiga with
- >no market, I'll prefer to support PC; the same thing with a different CPU and
- >an alive market.
-
- I think the OS/users is the most important factors. If demo, game and
- applicationcoders on the CISC-machines get themselves a RISC-Amiga instead
- of leaving to get a PC/MAC, then the users will stay the same.
- The OS should be too difficult to keep as good as it is, should it? :-)
-
- >Bah.. :((((((((((((((((
- >We should have gathered 10000 people through Internet, and bought the
- >Commodore by ourselves. ;-<
-
- I doubt that would be a good company...:-(
- Too much like CEI - many bold claims and (probably) no realistic figures.
-
- >I never believed that I would have thought this, but now I must judge real
- >facts: the PowerAmiga will born with much more *bad* problems than any
- >quality.
- >Who will support such an anonymous abort? If I wanna program the PC hardware,
- >I program the PC. The PowerPC CPU *sucks bigtime*, if I've to learn another
- >CPU, why should I learn PowerPC and not 80x86 that gives some food back?
- >I miss the true Amigas.
-
- I also miss the C64s, but the market isn't really there any longer...i think.
- Now people want a "multimedia"-machine with fast 3Dgfx more than fun games and
- most of the time the whole family gather and buy the machine for wordprosessing,
- games and well...looking at it...
-
- >For being "idealist", I wasted more than 1 year of fulltime work on the
- >Amiga, to make my first commercial game and live with it, and I got only 1549
- >UKP, still believing in what I was doing, to live the hunger (I've to mantain
- >myself, I am not lucky as many students) in sight of a future for my Amiga.
-
- I understand this. I can admit that i didn't buy VK myself, probably cause i
- didn't like the demo. Hope you accept this. Although i think that people who
- like the game should have bought it, not copied it.
- Good games deserves to get bought!
-
- >Well, from the deepest of my heart: FUCK OFF AT, you made it all become
- >useless.
-
- I do not agree, but ok, you can have your opinion. Also, i really like that you
- support the Amigamarket, i'll buy your new games if i like 'em :-)
